As you probably know, there’s a new Stephen King coming to theatres near you on November 21st, 2007, called “The Mist.” The movie is based upon King’s novel of the same name, and looks pretty exciting.
I have been a fan of Stephen King for a long time, and while I really do enjoy the frequently supernatural nature of his stories, films and novels, what I really enjoy about his work is that he manages to truly capture the ugliness of humanity. From the trailers, it looks like that will play a very large role in The Mist. Any time a group of strangers is stuck in a stressful situation in an unfamiliar location, you can pretty much guarantee that the worst in everyone will come out (oh, and you can be sure that the best in one or two will also shine through eventually).
One of my favorite Stephen King films and books of all time is The Shining. It’s a classic Stephen King story that has elements of the supernatural, but when you really dig into it, it is really about the potetial ugliness hidden in the human brain. Not only are the story and film truly terrifying, but they also expose the evil tricks that our minds play on all of us.
I’m hoping that The Mist by Stephen King is able to convey the same classic King themes. From the trailers that aere currently available online, I’m guessing this will be a good one. So go check it out…because what better way to spend Thanksgiving than by getting lost in The Mist?
