Experian declares war on LifeLock

If you are exposed to any kind of media during your life, you are probably familiar with LifeLock. Yes, that’s right, that’s the guy who tells you his Social Security number and basically dares you to steal his identity.

Well it turns out that Experian is pretty angry with lifelock right now. You see, the things that LifeLock does for you end up costing Experian money in the end, which really ticks them off.

If you ever thought that the credit bureaus were in business for your benefit, this absolutely proves that they aren’t. Credit bureaus sell your information to companies for marketing and other purposes. When LifeLock does what it does, Experian is no longer able to sell your information to those companies that send all of those unsolicited credit card offers, which means that they lose the revenue that they make by selling your personal information.

Unlike the credit bureaus, LifeLock’s business is protecting the consumer through placing fraud alerts for their members and doing other things to protect your identity that make it nearly impossible for the credit bureaus to profit off of you. It turns out that protecting the consumer costs the credit bureaus money, and man does that tick them off. If there ever was any illusion that they were in it to help you, I think that has been shattered quite nicely.
