Talkin’ about a revolution…

It seems that lately our government hasn’t been very scared of us (us being “We the People”). It’s more like WE are scared of THEM, which is not how it should be, EVER. Not in times of peace, certainly not in times of war, and absolutely not in times of alleged terrorist plots. We the People should be in charge, and that’s not how it is right now.

For example, consider the fact that in November 2006, enough Republicans were thrown out of Congress to create a Democratic majority, something that hasn’t existed in more than a decade. Most normal politicians would take this as a not so subtle hint from their constituents that a change is demanded. The Bush administration however has ignored what We the People requested in November, and is sending even more citizens to Iraq to kill and die (and is arguably making a move into Iran to boot).

In most cases where citizens were blatantly ignored by the administration in power, there would be civil unrest, political uprising, and media and politicians speaking out against what is being done. This is obviously not happening in the United States of NotAmerica. Contrary to what history would dictate, citizens and politicians are not rising up, and are barely even speaking out.

Obviously the Bush Administration has scared us into complacency. They said, “You’re with us, or you’re with the terrorists,” and after enough repetition we have come to believe that. Most of us, anyway.

The sad irony is that We the People are better poised than ever before to stage a revolution. We have the power of the Internet, to digitally assemble under the radar of those in charge (sort of under the radar anyway). Besides that, practically all of our military, including the National Guard are far away from home, leaving the home front unprotected (or severely underprotected) from attacks.

Now I would never (OK, almost never) suggest violent uprising as the best vehicle for political and/or social change. I am just presenting this fact as support for my argument that our administration is not at all afraid of its Citizens. And if that doesn’t piss you off, I’m not exactly sure what will.
