Safety and security – what is it good for?

Hardly a minute goes by when you are not bombarded by the word “terrorist,” “terrorism,” or some permutation thereof. We are also constantly bombarded by the need for “safety” and “security.” Whether it’s online security, home security, financial security or whatever, we are being sold the idea that we are currently not secure, and must but “X” product to gain security.

Even worse, when we’re talking about personal security and national security, we aren’t even required to purchase anything. We’re just expected to give up our most valuable asset to gain personal security – our freedom.

And who says that security and safety are all that great anyway? I mean yes, to a certain extent they are necessary, but isn’t a little unpredictability in life exciting? I think so, and I personally am willing to give up some safety and security to maintain that excitement and make life worthwhile.

I’ll be writing more on this, and will hopefully start a new website focused on this once my thoughts are better put together. Related posts will be tagged with “Meet in the Middle.”
