More misleading headlines about Iran…

CNN just reported that a United States-chartered cargo ship has fired warning shots in the Persian Gulf towards two small boats that approached it in international waters. When I got the news feed, it said that the ship had fired warning shots against Iranian boats, but when I got to the actual article, now it says:

U.S. defense officials, speaking only on condition of anonymity, first said they suspected the boats were Iranian.

But a Fifth Fleet spokeswoman quickly backed away from that charge.

“We cannot speculate on who they are. We just don’t know. We have no proof of who they were,” said Lt. Stephanie Murdoch, another spokeswoman for the Fifth Fleet.

Although it specifically states that there is no way to know who the boats belonged to, Iran is still prominent in the story. Take a look at the picture to the right that accompanied the story, and tell me my assessment is incorrect.

It is just painfully obvious that the United States mainstream media wants a war with Iran, and they want it now. But I guess it’s not their fault. They’re just being the Bush Administration’s lap dogs like they have been all along.
