Homeland Security feigns interest - so tell them what you think!

Tomorrow, May 1st, 2007, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will host a “town hall” meeting on the REAL-ID. In case you’re ot familiar, REAL-ID will standardize identification cards for US citizens and waste insane amounts of state and federal money. There are plenty of other problem with REAL-ID, too many to list here. For more information, Google “Real-ID” or visit http://stoprealidnow.blogspot.com/

The information for the town hall meeting is:

Tuesday, May 1, 2007
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

University of California, Davis
Freeborn Hall
One Shields Avenue
Davis, CA 95616

It will also be webcast at this URL:

Even though I can’t imagine that this is a legitimate effort to gather information, it is still important to at least make your voice heard and also to get educated about what a nasty thing this REAL-ID will be. for more information visit:

To let DHS know what you reallllly think, please consider submitting comments on the proposed implementation by the May 8 deadline.

The commenting process often leads to real changes in the government’s position — for example, after receiving 200,000 comments on “Know your customer” (which required banks to spy on their customers), the ruling got yanked — so with enough public outcry, we can make a difference here.
