I don’t know if I have mentioned it before, but right behind my house there is a huge church. It’s some type of Christian, but I’m not sure what exactly.
Every Sunday morning (and recently on Friday nights, too), the congregation gets together and sings their Christian assess off. Normally I would say that’s great and it doesn’t bother me. But it just so happens that their doors face my house directly, and when they’re belting out the lord’s tunes, they don’t bother closing their doors. The singing is so loud that even with the doors and windows in my house closed, I can hear the lyrics clearly. There have been a number of Sunday mornings that I have been awoken by singing well before I was ready to get out of bed.
At first this really pissed me off, but over the past year and a half I have learned to live with it. I was fine with their incessant singing up until yesterday.
As my wife and I were driving home yesterday, we noticed that the church had changed their sign. You know those signs that always have witty sayings that make non-Christians or half-assed Christians feel like assholes for not going to church? Yeah, that one.
So now the sign reads:
“Legalizing sin does not make it harmless!”
Hmm…what ever could they be talking about? Could it be the California Supreme Court ruling that same-sex marriage is legal after all?
I know that all of the Christian “values” and beliefs are justified by the Bible, but can’t we maybe update our belief system a little bit? Same sex couples are here to stay, and Christian intolerance against them is not going to change that. Why in the world would you publicly alienate a group of people who you allege to be interested in “helping”? It just seems counterintuitive.
Lastly, how in the hell does same sex marriage harm anyone? “Legalizing sin doesn’t make it harmless” implies that same sex marriage harms someone. Who, exactly, does it harm? I know a number of same sex couples, some of whom are married or committed for life, and I can’t state a single instance where their same sex relationship has hurt a single person or has ruined a heterosexual couple’s relationship.
That’s it, I’m writing these bastards a letter.
