Can I just make this out to Halliburton directly?

For the first time in my fifteen-plus years of tax filing, my wife and I actually owe money this year. And a lot of it. Granted it was due to a significant increase in our take-home pay, for which I am of course thankful, but writing those big checks out to the United States Treasury still hurts like hell, especially when I know this money is only going to be used to pay the interest on our national debt.

If I didn’t know that, I think I would probably make my check out to Halliburton directly. Might as well cut out the middle man, right? ;)

Will my dream come true? Is this the end of American Airlines?

For a few years now, I have had a strong hate for all of the old school airlines. American and United are at the top of my list of airlines that suck, although I’m probably biased because of their complicity in government shenanigans.

These old airlines fly old planes, have terrible customer service, rude flight attendants, higher fares, and just basically suck. In a time of JetBlue and Frontier, there is no reason at all to fly these shitty old airlines except that they frequently have the most convenient and direct flights. I would argue that a world without American and United would be a better world for all airline passengers.

What will these recent flight cancellations do to American? Certainly they have compromised what little good will they had with their customers previously. And the bad press that they have been getting over these inspections can’t help them convince potential customers that they’re the way to go.

So what will happen here? If things get really bad, are we looking at yet another government bailout for yet another corporation that fucked up? Oh wait, the government already HAS bailed American out just a few years ago. Will they do it again? Will American go under (crossing fingers…)? Either way, I truly hope that I never have to set foot on another American Airlines plane ever again.

What the Favre?

I’m not a big football fan – actually, strike that. I’m not a football fan at all. So take this with a grain of salt.

While everyone is busy talking about Brett Favre’s retirement, the future of America is being decided today. Talk about burying the stories going on in Texas and Ohio.

Everyone who is a football fan is busy talking about what a good and classy guy Brett Favre is, but I have to disagree. How unclassy is it to steal the headlines on a day like today? Of all the days to announce his retirement, why did he pick today?

It’s like the old “religion is the opiate of the masses” thing, which I still agree with, but I would have to add “and sports” to the phrase.

So get the fuck over it, sports fans, and start paying attention to what’s really going on in the world. Sorry for the rant, loyal readers, I just had to get that off my chest.

How embarrassing… California gives Giuliani more votes than Ron Paul

I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry, as it appears that Giuliani has received twice as many votes as Ron Paul from the Republicans in my home state of California. I mean, I know that Giuliani never really dropped out officially, but are you fucking serious? That’s just embarrassing. Really it is. No wonder we have an action hero actor for a governor. Fuck.

Lie loudly and smack as many people as possible with your big stick.

Well, that may have more connotations than I meant, but it’s true. Bush is all about lying loudly and frequently, and carrying a huge Blackwater flavored stick. This guy is nothing but lies, and gets upset when people call him on it. As is exemplified in this here YouTube video, Premier Bush has no problem “correcting” people who call him on it, and has no allegiance to any of his statements. This guy lacks any semblance of trustworthiness, yet Pelosi still won’t impeach. Just amazing what we let these fuckers get away with.

Fuck the kids, let’s kill some more Iraqis!

As I’m sure all of us have heard, President Bush has suggested that he will veto the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) because of “excessive spending.” Apparently paying your rich friends’ companies three trillion dollars to fight an unprovoked war and occupying a country is not “excessive spending.”

It really is apparent that BushCo couldn’t give a shit about the welfare of the American People despite the bullshit rhetoric he spewed at the United Nations about responsibility in the world. All he wants to do is make his friends richer and kill people.

Even the Lieutenant Governor is against this increase. So what the fuck?

On September 17, 2007, California Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi sent a letter to Chancellor Charles Reed (also an asshole, like the Board of Trustees) stating his adamant opposition to the excessive executive salary increases.

In addition, another letter was sent to Chancellor Reed regarding the simultaneous scheduling of the UC Board of Regents meeting and the CSU Board of Trustees meeting. Does’t this simultaneous scheduling reak of something shady going on?

I can only hope that this dissention from above will lead to some sort of shake-up. I’m not sure exactly who is allowed to fire the Chancellor, but I hope that someone can find a way. This guy has lead the CSU system on a downhill slide for the past ten years, and he absolutely needs to go.

Read the text of both letters from Garamendi to Chuck Reed here.

Way to go, CSU Board of Trustees. Assholes.

Not surprisingly, the California State University Board of Trustees (or should I say Board of Assholes) unanimously approved a 12% salary increase for University Presidents and executive staff, and a 46% total increase over the next three years. In the meantime, the union is fighting tooth and nail for a drop in the bucket increase for peeon staff members like myself that will most likely amount to less than 4%.

I just can’t figure out where they think this is right. Most of the Board of Assholes have absolutely no experience on the ground in the CSU system, and obviously have no idea the amount of work that normal staff members put into the operation of the CSU system. Those few who have experience in the CSU system must be either trying to help out their already rich friends George W. Bush style, or are just kissing up to their bosses. I can only assume that those few who come from within the CSU system are padding their own wallets too with this increase.

The worst part is that, once again, the students get fucked and the executive staff get their pockets stuffed full of cash. Student fees will increase 10% in the next year, largely in order fund these insane pay raises. As much as I do have a personal stake in this, the people that really matter, and the reason the CSU system is truly here for (that’s the students), are really the ones who should be outraged.

John Bolton supports Isreali strike on Iran

John Bolton, the mustachioed old bastard who was Bush’s former UN ambassador, has publicly stated that the United States would fully support an Isreali strike against nuclear targets in Iran. Man does this guy spew some serious neocon bullshit.

I’m not an anti-Semite, but I do not at all understand why the neocons are so pro-Isreal. Actually I do understand, and it’s scary as hell, but that’s a story for a different day and has a lot to do with the neocon-Zionist connection. And no, being anti-Zionist is not being anti-Jewish.

Anyway, I digress. For anyone in the United States to support a pre-emptive unprovoked strike on any country after our major fuck-up in Iraq is both embarrassing and irresponsible. It just makes us look like worse assholes than we already do.

Police state? No way! (Yes way.)

Are you scared of the cops? Are you scared of your government? Yeah, me too.

If you’re not, consider this. Use of tasers in police work has increased at an alarming rate, and is not beign questioned by anyone. In fact, the only reason this has become apparent to the average citizen – sadly, the average citizen probably doesn’t even recognize this alarming trend – informed citizen, I should say, is because of LiveLeak and the prevalence of camcorders and cell phone video cameras.
