Nice knowing you, 4th Amendment!

In a treasonous move, today the United States Senate passed H.R. 6304: FISA Amendments Act of 2008 thanks to a number of traitor Democrats.

One of my Senators, Dianne Feinstein, voted Aye. I let her know how I felt about it through her web contact form. I suggest you do the same.

“Senator Feinstein, your vote today on H.R. 6304 is treasonous and embarrassing. It’s obvious who you work for, and it’s certainly NOT the People of California.”

Oh, and by the way - Obama also voted Aye.

MillionforMarriage.org

If you haven’t yet heard, the first lesbian couple of this new wave of officially state sanctioned same sex marriages had their ceremony last night. Congratulations to them for standing up for what they know is right. What a great reward for all their hard work.

Unfortunately this right is in danger, and the forces against it are rich and powerful. Don’t let ultra-conservative Christians spread their hate any more than they already do. Stand up for the rights of your fellow human beings, and sign the petition at MillionforMarriage.com and let your support for same sex couples be known.

Don’t let the gay community have a basic human right taken from them again.

Church sign update

I feel a little badly for my rant earlier this morning. It turns out that the pastor of the church is a very nice man, and made a phone call to the church from an out-of-town trip, and has had the sign changed. He was very apologetic, and agreed that intolerance and exclusion is not the attitude that they want to portray.

I’m very pleased to report this, and have to give this fellow credit for being more progressive than I would have ever imagined. He did say that his opinion on homosexuality is certainly different than mine, but that he did not think it appropriate to exclude or alienate anyone.

Letter to an intolerant church

Good morning,

I live in a neighborhood near your church, and would like to express my distaste for the message on your sign this week. I normally get a decent chuckle from your signs. However, I find this week’s sign message, which states “Legalizing sin does not make it harmless,” extremely offensive and irresponsible.

I have been happily married to my wife for almost exactly five years. We have been in a relationship for a little over seven years. We have a large number of gay friends and family members, all of whom we love dearly. My cousin and her wife got married when San Francisco was issuing marriage licenses for same sex couples back in February of 2004, have been married and exclusive for over four years. My gay friends who are in committed relationships have some of the best relationships that I have ever witnessed. They love and care for each other, and are good people.

I am curious as to how you think gay marriage “harms” people. Who exactly does it harm, and how? It seems that with the plethora of gay friends and family that my wife and I associate with that our relationship should surely have been damaged by our associations. It hasn’t, and we are still going strong after five years of marriage.

On your website in a large font, it states “We welcome you!” If you really welcome everyone, why the intolerant sign message?

Sincerely, Liam Ferris

Ever wonder where all the money goes?

So, here we are in this nonrecession, many of us stuck with a dead-end salary, if we even have a job at all. The state of California is damn near broke, along with other state and local governments. But do you ever wonder where all the money from a few years back went? Isn’t that the idea, that money circulates? Well if it circulates, where in the hell is it?

I have your solution, sadly. It’s in the pockets of war profiteers and corporations. Sure, they say they don’t have any money so they don’t have to pay any taxes, or move it to a foreign country, but it’s there. The money still exists, just not where it should be.

This, my friends, is known as pure despicable greed. If you want to let our presidential candidates know how you feel about this financial scam, check out the video below, then visit WarOnGreed.com and sign their petition.

Cool! I got an email from Helen Thomas!

Check this out. How cool is this?

Good afternoon, Ms. Thomas:

I just wanted to salute you for being a real journalist in these
times of pathetic Bush Administration lap dogs. Your question to Dana
Perino regarding torture was right on, and her blunt refusal to even
discuss the issue is absolutely disgusting to me.

Your “Where is everyone?” comment was spot-on. It’s sad that it has
been two weeks and this issue still hasn’t hit the front pages of our
newspapers.

Thank you for all you do. You are a true patriot, and an
irreplaceable asset to this country.

Sincerely,
Liam Ferris

Sign a petition - let John McCain know what you think!

Here’s a forward from MoveOn.org. They’re not necessarily my favorite group out there, as I have discussed before, but they do some good things. Let John McCain know what you think of his hypocrisy by signing the petition linked below:

This past Sunday, John McCain again embraced the political support of right-wing evangelist John Hagee, who said “Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans.”

I just signed a petition asking Senator McCain to stop seeking political support from hatemongers like Hagee.

Senator McCain is actually in New Orleans today, and MoveOn members from that region will try to give him this petition.

Can you join me by signing at the link below?

As if the mainstream media wasn’t enough of a joke already…

It has just come out that the Pentagon has been paying military analysts and other news “professionals” to push their pro-war agenda without divulging their loyalties. Here’s a quick write-up from FreePress.org:

The Pentagon is infiltrating the media with pro-war propaganda.

The scheme reaches all the way to the Bush White House, where top officials recruited dozens of “military analysts” to spread favorable views of the war via every major news channel — without revealing they were working from Pentagon scripts and often lobbying for major military contractors looking to cash in on the war.

This is a violation of every conceivable standard of journalism — and possibly of federal law.

And here is a quick video of some the lies that we have been told:

Are you mad yet? You should be. We are being lied to by our own government to help their friends make big bucks on the Iraq occupation. This needs to be made public. Take action at: https://secure.freepress.net/site/Advocacy?id=257
