More than anything, I am disappointed in Dunkin’ Donuts’ refusal to stand up to the BS. For the last seven years, any mention of “terrorism” or “unAmericanism” strikes the fear of the general public’s wrath in the hearts of corporations.
But who do these people represent? They represent a very small (but unfortunately powerful) subset of the American public. Most Americans don’t believe this crap, but the few that do have some serious pull. And it scares the hell out of me.
A Friday afternoon right before a big holiday weekend is a great time to give the public bad news. People are more worried about how to get their boss to let them off early than paying attention to what’s going on in the world at large.
Many of us have heard stories of trucks driving around Iraq with pallets of cash in them, but I don’t know if anyone realized that it was this bad. Just to put it in perspective, California’s budget deficit this year is somewhere around that amount. So as Schwarzenegger is scrambling to cut the a deficit, the Pentagon is basically pissing away money.
It’s a sad state of affairs, but our government is terrible at keeping track of its money. Not that anyone remembers, but just prior to 9/11/2001, Dick Cheney reported that the Pentagon could not account for somewhere between two and three trillion dollars. I might also add that that news was also revealed on a Friday prior to a holiday weekend.
Confusion runs rampant. Despite an Israeli media report that Bush intends to attack Iran before the end of his term (like we didn’t already know that), the Washington media bullshitters have already launched a counter attack denying the claim.
No matter what they say, does anyone really believe that Bush doesn’t intend to attack Iran? Seriously, what does he have to lose? A few American lives? Has that stopped him ever before? It didn’t stop him from playing a vital role in the murder of 3,000 American citizens, then following it up with the murder of 4,000 plus American soldiers.
No matter what they’re saying, I would not at all be surprised to see an attack. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t be angered and disappointed, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
Although I may not always agree with Ted Kennedy on all of his ideas, he has definitely been an influential politician and has made a progressive difference in the history of the United States. I am sending good thoughts and wishes his direction, and hope that his brain tumor can be removed. I wish the best to him and to his family.
Now I’m just waiting to see what kind of offensive crap Bill O’FuckIt and friends can come up with to say tonight. I’m sure they’ll come up with some kind of tasteless commentary.
Now that the California Supreme Court has ruled that same-sex marriages are indeed legal in California, I’m sure there are plenty of questions on the minds of same-sex couples who want to finally get married. If you are part of a same sex couple, or if you’re just curious, Equality California has a great FAQ on same sex marriages in California.
I’m just glad that this went through, and that the Supreme Court made an educated and progressive decision. While the amount of right-wing religious nutballs against same sex marriage is minimal, their political influence is staggering. I’m glad that their closed-minded intolerance didn’t influence the Supreme Court to make a bad decision.
Congratulations to all my same sex couple friends!
I know that this post will most likely get me on the no-fly list, or at least the extra airport security check list, but fuck it. I really don’t care.
In Osama bin Laden’s latest address (which came in the form of a still image of him with an audio track), he discusses the situation in Palestine, and encourages Muslims to liberate Palestine from the Israeli occupiers. Obviously, at this point that would be a hell of a job. The Israeli lobby in the United States is insanely powerful, and as long as the neocons are in power Israel isn’t going anywhere.
In the address, however, bin Laden also talks about the unbelievable injustices that are done to Muslims in Palestine. The Israelis are not nice occupiers, and bulldoze houses in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip on a regular basis with no concern for the families and lives that they destroy in the process. Please bear in mind that they are not doing this within Israel - this is inside Palestine.
Sadly, just about everything that the mainstream media is reporting bin Laden as saying is not all that radical or off base. The Palestinians are being abused constantly, and the Zionists are not good people. The mainstream media would have you believe that bin Laden’s criticism of Zionists is antisemitic, but Zionists are distinctly different than the traditional everyday Jewish person.
Here’s a video that might help make more sense of the situation:
The alleged suicide of Deborah Jean Palfrey, the “DC Madam,” has been brought into question by many people on the Internet, and even in the mainstream media. It’s definitely a weird situation at best, and there are a lot of high-level “Johns” that stood to lose a lot should she be allowed to talk.
Check out the two videos below, do some research, and decide for yourself. But my mind is made up.
I would argue that our poor relationship with the UN, and our ever-decreasing support from UN forces in our occupation efforts, stems largely from his tenure as a UN ambassador. John Bolton is interested in nothing but advancing the neocon agenda, and makes it abundantly clear that he supports the war crimes of the Bush Administration entirely.
Check out his interview on Fox News. It’s embarrassing at best.
I just have to wonder - how does busting frat boy drug dealers make the world a better place? Sure it’s illegal and possibly immoral to sell drugs, but is busting frat boys a good use of our law enforcement resources?
It’s just one more nail in the coffin of the never-ending and pointless War on Drugs that the United States Government feels compelled to fight. If frat boy drug dealers are our worst threat, are illegal drugs really the threat to society that They want us to believe they are?
In case you haven’t heard, last week’s new free Nine Inch Nails song Discipline has turned into a new FREE album called “The Slip.” Ten tracks of new NIN material, all available for free at TheSlip.NIN.com. I’m only about a third through, but it’s damned amazing so far.
