Bad credit loans

If you have some dings on your credit, you probably know how difficult it is to get a loan, or even just a credit card. These days, banks are hurting so badly over the sub-prime meltdown that they are tightening their lending requirements to ridiculous levels.

If you are in this situation and need a loan but can’t get one, check out BadCreditOffers.com. It’s a great resource for bad credit credit cards and other loans for people with bad credit. Oh, and it’s a free resource, so can you really go wrong?

Pennsylvania Primary Day!

Well here we are, headed into what could be an either exciting or disappointing day in the Democratic primary process. Today, Pennsylvania voters will decide who to suggest their delegates votes go to at the DNC. It’s possible that Clinton could pull this off, but what exactly would that mean? If she doesn’t pull it off, she still has nine more chances to drum up the votes she needs. If she does pull it off, it might give her some momentum, but who knows if it will really help.

On a semi-related topic, take a look at this new video from Brave New Films about more lies from the mainstream media:

Whose taxes are you paying, anyway?

You may recall a few days ago that I mentioned that we got absolutely jacked on our income taxes this year. You may also recall that I jokingly asked if I should just make my check out to Halliburton directly. It turns out that statement isn’t too far from the truth. Check this out:

A 2004 U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) study found that 61% of American corporations, including 39% of large companies, paid no corporate income taxes between 1996 and 2000. Last year, corporations shouldered just 14.4% of the total U.S. tax burden, compared with about 50% in 1940.

The above quote is taken from an article in Parade Magazine entitled “Are You Paying For Corporate Fat Cats?” It puts out some pretty interesting information about the income tax shelters that modern corporations enjoy, and the loopholes that allow some of them to pay no tax at all.

Sneaky tax tricks that corporations pull, like Halliburton moving its CEO to Dubai, are the reason that the tax burden has shifted so significantly. And the loopholes that allow these tricks seem to keep expanding as the tax breaks for the average Joe keep decreasing.

Hopefully whomever takes over in January will take a good long look at this situation, although I’m not holding my breath.

Anyone else creeped out by the Pope’s visit?

Is it just me, or is anyone else more than a little creeped out by the Pope’s visit to the United States, specifically Premiere Bush’s behavior regarding the visit? Isn’t it a little weird that a religious leader of a minority religion receives such a response from the country? For example:

  • This is the first time in his eight years that President Bush has travelled to the airport to greet a foreign leader.
  • “Lampposts fluttered with flags in the red-white-and-blue of America and yellow-and-white of the Holy See.” When has the United States ever done anything like this before?
  • “[The Pope's] 90-minute stay at the White House — only the second ever by a pope — was accompanied by the kind of pomp and pageantry rarely seen even on grounds accustomed to routinely welcoming royalty and the world’s most important leaders.”

Is this just strange or what? I can understand a warm welcome for a religious leader, but doesn’t this seem excessive?

Can I just make this out to Halliburton directly?

For the first time in my fifteen-plus years of tax filing, my wife and I actually owe money this year. And a lot of it. Granted it was due to a significant increase in our take-home pay, for which I am of course thankful, but writing those big checks out to the United States Treasury still hurts like hell, especially when I know this money is only going to be used to pay the interest on our national debt.

If I didn’t know that, I think I would probably make my check out to Halliburton directly. Might as well cut out the middle man, right? ;)

Are you sick of your slow Internet connection?

If your broadband Internet connection isn’t performing the way you think it should, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate and optimize your setup. You can Optimize Your Internet Settings with PC Pitstop Optimize by following the directions in the article at Web-Articles.info entitled “Optimize Your Internet Settings with PC Pitstop Optimize.”

Besides helping you to optimize your Internet connection settings, the article also talks about optimizing your Registry entries. Unnecessary and invalid Registry keys can gum up the system, and slow down your computer significantly. Getting rid of these bad keys will help speed up your computer.

The last part of the article talks about optimizing your overall PC performance using some of the lesser-known and hidden settings available in Windows.

So if you’re frustrated with your computer, just check out Web-Articles.info for more information.

Obama’s retort to the “bitter” smear campaign

Yesterday, at an address to the United Steelworker’s Union in Pennsylvania, Barack Obama responded publicly to the smear campaign that Hillary Clinton launched based upon his “bitter” speech of last week.

Not only does Obama address her ugly politics in an intelligent manner, but he has a great time doing it. I’m not saying Obama is perfect (because if he is, that would be pretty creepy), but I have no doubt that he respects small town America.

Take a look at the video. It’s well worth your time, especially if you have lost some faith in Obama based upon the Clinton smear campaign. Give him another chance, and don’t buy the hype.

ColdFusion tips for you web programmers

If you program web applications using ColdFusion, you’re probably pretty savvy to begin with. But it seems there always comes a times when we could use a little help from our (online) friends. I use ColdFusion in a limited capacity, but came across a site that I thought would probably be of benefit to someone out there.

The specific article I came across covers calling a function by using CF Invoke. Not only does it talk about calling ColdFusion functions, it also covers conditionally including and modifying arguments using CFINVOKEARGUMENT. All of these are very helpful to ColdFusion programmers.

If you’re interested in more information about this sort of thing, be sure and check out Jack Irwingston’s articles on Free.fm.

Will my dream come true? Is this the end of American Airlines?

For a few years now, I have had a strong hate for all of the old school airlines. American and United are at the top of my list of airlines that suck, although I’m probably biased because of their complicity in government shenanigans.

These old airlines fly old planes, have terrible customer service, rude flight attendants, higher fares, and just basically suck. In a time of JetBlue and Frontier, there is no reason at all to fly these shitty old airlines except that they frequently have the most convenient and direct flights. I would argue that a world without American and United would be a better world for all airline passengers.

What will these recent flight cancellations do to American? Certainly they have compromised what little good will they had with their customers previously. And the bad press that they have been getting over these inspections can’t help them convince potential customers that they’re the way to go.

So what will happen here? If things get really bad, are we looking at yet another government bailout for yet another corporation that fucked up? Oh wait, the government already HAS bailed American out just a few years ago. Will they do it again? Will American go under (crossing fingers…)? Either way, I truly hope that I never have to set foot on another American Airlines plane ever again.
