Switching back for Obama

As the winds have turned and seemingly stolen the wind from Ron Paul’s sails, my focus has shifted to the future, and to what November holds for the American people. As much as I had hoped for Ron Paul to make a splash and make Americans remember exactly what this country is supposed to stand for, it appears that hope is all but lost.

This has led me to do a lot of thinking about who my vote in November will go to, and what issues I hope will be solved by the new President (provided, of course, that King George actually decides to leave office).

My priority is to get the United States out of Iraq. It seems so far that Obama is the man for that job. I don’t trust Clinton to get us out of there, and McCain obviously has no interest at all in getting us out.

The next priority is avoiding future unprovoked wars. Again, Obama seems to be the man for the job. He has already stated that he will meet with the leaders of alleged “hostile” countries to try and solve things diplomatically. McCain and Clinton have no interest in this, and will give us more of the same.

In fact, today in a press conference, Bush slammed Obama for stating that he would talk to other leaders, saying that it would send a bad signal to other nations. And what might that signal be, Mr. Bush? That the United States seeks to solve problems diplomatically instead of just barging in and fucking shit up? Wow, yeah, that is a bad signal, isn’t it?

Anyway, at this point my vote is for Obama, but we’ll see how things pan out. It really depends upon who decides to run third-party, and what they have to say about things.

More primaries today…

With the Democratic race getting uglier and uglier, it will be interesting to see how the three primaries happening turn out. I fear that the Democratic party will end up fragmented and disagreeable, and that the chosen Democratic Presidential candidate will end up with a tough job ahead in repairing the damage done.

I almost wonder if the candidates honestly have the best interests of their party at heart. Are they in it for the good of the party, or to stroke their own egos? I hope or the first, but fear the last.

We’ll see how the primaries go today, hopefully a distinct winner will emerge, but we’ll see. If the Dems can’t beat McCain because of internal turmoil, it will be a sad day.

Switching for Ron Paul? Part II - Still a Democrat

Like the fellow in this video, my party affiliation hadn’t changed either. I received my Republican sample ballot, but when I arrived at my polling place I was listed on the roster as a Democrat. I was also listed as “VBM” or “vote by mail,” but never received my vote by mail packet (even though I had not registered to vote by mail).

Take a look at the voting clusterfuck in CA:

How embarrassing… California gives Giuliani more votes than Ron Paul

I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry, as it appears that Giuliani has received twice as many votes as Ron Paul from the Republicans in my home state of California. I mean, I know that Giuliani never really dropped out officially, but are you fucking serious? That’s just embarrassing. Really it is. No wonder we have an action hero actor for a governor. Fuck.

Super Tuesday - Voter information for LA and OC

I just had an article published at AssociatedContent that may be helpful for those of you in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas should you need voter information today. It’s located here:

No matter what you stand for, go out there and make your voice heard. That’s what makes our country work, and you should be proud to be a part of it. Now step away from the computer and VOTE!!

Charlie Wilson’s War - Movie Report

Over the weekend, my wife and I went to see Charlie Wilson’s War. On the outside, it’s a film about a Congressman from a tiny part of Texas with a penchant for women, booze, and whatever other vices might come his way. But underneath it’s the largely-true story of how the United States pumped money into the Mujahideen to fight the Soviets in Afghanistan, then failed to follow through with a rebuilding effort, thereby indirectly allowing the Taliban to come into power. In addition, it explains exactly how the weapons that are killing American soldiers today in Afghanistan ended up there.

Charlie Wilson’s War tells an essential part of American history, but unfortunately it’s a part that very few will ever truly understand. Most of the audience at the movie theatre was older folks who probably distinctly remember the Soviet threat, and the fall of the Soviet Union. My wife and I were the youngest people there by far.

My guess is that even if younger folks were to see this movie, they wouldn’t understand what the events portrayed in the film led up to, and why it’s so relevant to what is going on today. As good as the film was, and as great a job as they did telling the story, the film unfortunately falls short in linking up those events to their relevance today. I would still highly recommend this movie though. Check it out, and follow it up with some good old fashioned education.
