Naomi Wolfe, is an American feminist writer who has written extensively on feminist issues. She has worked as a consultant to Bill Clinton in his 1996 re-election campaign, and for Al Gore on his 2000 campaign. Her latest book, The End of America: A Letter of Warning To A Young Patriot has apparently become quite a threat to the conservative brainwashers out there.
In an interview on The Factor, guest host John Kasich makes a mockery of journalism with his interview techniques. Not allowing your guest to answer your questions and then accusing them of not answering your questions is rude at best. But Ms. Wolf maintains her composure in an amazing fashion, setting an example for us all.
Liberals need more people like Naomi Wolf. We need someone who can keep their cool while still being strong. Check out this shitty interview:
Not surprisingly, Houston, Texas was the site of a recent unmanned surveillance drone test. The test took place on a ranch which was closed to media and only open to invited guests. In addition, as Channel 2’s news chopper tried to get a better look, the pilot was repeatedly threated with legal action for entering closed airspace. Turns out there was no such closure according to the FAA.
In the news story, the Channel 2 reporters raised concerns about these drones being used for illegal, warrantless searches. This is a valid concern, and is an obvious breach of our rights as American citizens. But in this age of the USA-PATRIOT Act where warrantless phone tapping is authorized from the highest reaches of our federal government, who is going to make a case against the use of such equipment?
If we, the Citizens of the United States, continue our oblivious and ambivalent quest for material wealth and selfish causes and don’t buckle down and start giving a shit about what our alleged leaders are doing, this will become the norm. Getting a ticket from a red light camera is bad enough… just imagine getting arrested because a drone caught you smoking weed on your couch at home.
So, now that we have had a Diebold whistleblower, among others, come out and expose the fraud of Diebold’s electronic voting machines, Republicans are scrambling to find new (and…surprise!…legal) ways to steal the 2008 election. I have to give them credit for this one, as it is indeed pretty creative.
Playing off of the general public’s disenfranchisement with the Electoral College system of distributing votes, factions within the Republican party (ahem…”9/11 Giuliani”) are hard at work pumping money into a ballot measure that will divide up California’s fifty-five electoral votes by congressional district, rather than giving them all to one winner. According to official sounding mainstream media tools, that would mean approximately thirty-five to Democratic candidates and twenty to Republicans.
As pointed out by the same mainstream media tools, Ohio has twenty electoral votes, and we all remember how that fucked up 2004. If this goes through, it could very well mean a Giuliani win. Which would mean we would all die and the world as we know it would end. Don’t laugh, I’m not kidding.
So if you are asked to sign a petition claiming to make the lectoral process fair, don’t sign it. And if these idiots get their way and it actually gets put on the ballot, absolutely vote against it!
If you follow any kind of modern conspiracy theories, you have most likely run into Alex Jones. He is a radio host, website proprietor, documentary writer and producer, and executive producer of Loose Change: Final Cut. In short, Alex Jones is probably the most well known and prolific of conspiracy theorists.
I have always been a bit turned off by Mr. Jones’ alarmist nature, but have been able to get past it because of the useful information that he produces. His last documentary, Terrorstorm, had some great information and was very well done. Unfortunately his latest effort, Endgame, doesn’t quite hit the mark, and instead comes across as a conservative propaganda film using conspiracy theories to back up Christian conservative agendas. When I was asked by PayPerPost to try out a sample of Biotene Sensitive toothpaste, I was skeptical to say the least, but was happy to give it a try. When it comes to brushing teeth, I am pretty set in my ways. I have been happy with the same brand of toothpaste for a long time, and never really had any intentions of switching any time soon (or ever). But it turns out that Biotene is actually pretty good stuff!
You see, my sample of Biotene showed up in the mail at exactly the right time. In the morning a few Fridays ago, I had a dentist appointment. Just a basic checkup and cleaning, but as I’m sure you all know the old teeth get a bit sensitive after all the scraping and poking entailed in dental cleanings. When I arrived home, my sample of Biotene was waiting at the door.
That night before bed, my teeth were feeling much better and less sensitive, but were still a little bit tender. I decided that this was a perfect opportunity to give Biotene a shot under real world conditions. After a thorough brushing, I have to admit that Biotene works great. It was gentle on my teeth, and I am pretty sure it even made them feel better.
If you ever need a toothpaste that will be kind to your sensitive teeth, give Biotene a try. I can tell you from personal experience that it really does work.
The latest chapter in the Loose Change series of films, Loose Change: Final Cut, was released on November 11th. It is available to purchase as a DVD, as a paid high quality streaming video online, or you can see the free version at Google Video. I personally have not had a chance to check it out yet, but plan to watch it this afternoon.
No matter what you believe or do not believe about what happened on 9/11/2001, I really think it is important to be open to every different side of the story. Besides that, without knowing what the other side’s argument is, it’s pretty hard to support your side.
So if you get a chance, take a look at Loose Change: Final Cut. Whatever you believe, it’s definitely worth your time.
On Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the UCLA vs. ASU football game. It was a lot of fun even though UCLA lost. But as I sat in the midst of late teen ASU students, I came to a realization regarding modern language taboos, and thought I would share.
Most of the ASU students in our section were, for the most part, fairly rude. I understand that sports are all about competition and hating your opponent and such, but these folks were downright obnoxious. Every time UCLA would do something good, one fellow would yell “Light blue is a gay color anyway!”
As you probably know, there’s a new Stephen King coming to theatres near you on November 21st, 2007, called “The Mist.” The movie is based upon King’s novel of the same name, and looks pretty exciting.
I have been a fan of Stephen King for a long time, and while I really do enjoy the frequently supernatural nature of his stories, films and novels, what I really enjoy about his work is that he manages to truly capture the ugliness of humanity. From the trailers, it looks like that will play a very large role in The Mist. Any time a group of strangers is stuck in a stressful situation in an unfamiliar location, you can pretty much guarantee that the worst in everyone will come out (oh, and you can be sure that the best in one or two will also shine through eventually).
One of my favorite Stephen King films and books of all time is The Shining. It’s a classic Stephen King story that has elements of the supernatural, but when you really dig into it, it is really about the potetial ugliness hidden in the human brain. Not only are the story and film truly terrifying, but they also expose the evil tricks that our minds play on all of us.
I’m hoping that The Mist by Stephen King is able to convey the same classic King themes. From the trailers that aere currently available online, I’m guessing this will be a good one. So go check it out…because what better way to spend Thanksgiving than by getting lost in The Mist?
In yet another installment of the LiamFerris.com exclusive series “How to Be A Decent Person,” today I present ideas on not harming your fellow man. It seems that people just don’t understand that we’re all here to help each other out, and not harm one another. You would think that’s a simple concept, but apparently it’s not.
Take, for example, this surveillance camera (ugh) video of a white SUV hitting a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The SUV literally drives over a pedestrian, stops, then finishes driving over him and pulls over. The driver gets out of the SUV and goes to check on the victim. Take a look to see what happens next:
Check out this video from AT&T whistleblower Mark Klein. He’s an ex-AT&T technician who has firsthand knowledge of the surveillance that AT&T has been doing on the government’s behalf. He’s currently lobbying against giving telecom companies retroactive immunity like the Bush Administration would like to bestow upon them.
