You may remember me talking about Capella University in the past. Capella is an accredited, fully online university that can help you get your college degree online. If you want to get your degree but just don’t have time, Capella is a great option.
Even though getting a degree online still has a bit of a stigma, it turns out that online professors are just as academically inclined as traditional brick and mortar campus professors. In fact, Sara Orem, PhD, an adjunct faculty member at Capella University, just co-authored a new book titled Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change. The book was co-authored by Jacqueline Binkert, PhD, and Ann Clancy, PhD.
Recent discoveries in Psychology show that a focus on human ideals, achievements, and best practices helps organizations flourish. Appreciative Coaching strives to encourage this using positive questions, mindfulness, and other tools to acknowledge the strengths of individuals and effect change.
Besides being a professor for Capella and a published author, Dr. Orem is also a principal of her own coaching firm. She lives in Oakland, CA, and has presented at a number of distinguished conferences. With true academics like Dr. Orem working for Capella, how can you resist persuing an online degree?

It’s been quite a while since I have blogged about anything even remotely technically oriented. Today however, I feel it is essential that I put out a public service announcement for you loyal readers about USB flash drives.
You know the ones I’m talking about. They fit on your keychain. They’re $5 for a 32MB stick at Target. You can carry around whatever documents you need to on them. They’re a pretty darn great invention.
BUT…
From my experience, USB flash drives are flaky as hell when it comes to data integrity. It is of course impossible for me to say that the data loss incidents that I have witnessed are not user induced, but I feel pretty confident saying that USB flash drives are not a good place to store your data for the long term.
The moral is this: Store your documents on your hard drive, back them up to CDs or DVDs, and transport them with your flash drive. But do not under any circumstances trust your vital documents to just one storage medium.

I don’t think that there has ever been a man more evil than Bill Kristol. Seriously, I don’t. Every time I see his smug face and that cheap grin that he gets when he talks about people dying, my skin just crawls. I know that a lot of people think the Dubya is evil, and yeah he’s pretty fucking bad but he’s no Bill Kristol.
On Crooks and Liars there’s a video of good old Bill Kristol getting reamed by a military wife on C-SPAN. She talks about how she only gets 2 hours of sleep a night, has nightmares about her husband, and how her elementary school aged kids freeze up whenever the doorbell rings. And what does BK have to say about it? Not a whole damned lot, except to say that it supports his argument for a larger military.
I honestly think that this man has no heart. At all. I’m not sure who took it from him, or if he was just born without one, but holy shit is he a nasty man. Just had to get that off my chest.
Apparently Dennis Kucinich’s articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney are pretty popular with citizens. As of Friday, over 15,000 people had already contacted their representatives to show their support, and that was only through one website. Given all of the other methods of contacting representatives, I can only imagine how many citizens have shown their support.
That doesn’t mean that it’s time to quit though. We need to keep this issue in the forefront, and tell our representatives to take this seriously. My only fear is that the useless Washing press corps is (of course) neglecting their suty to tell the American people the full story, and have been practically silent on this issue.
If you would like more information about the possible Cheney impeachment, check out the article at OpEdNews. There’s also a link in the article to an action page so that you too can get involved.

Up until fairly recently, decent and stylish surf clothes for the ladies were practically nonexistant. Besides that, there wasn’t a whole lot at all in all of surf culture for the daughters, mothers, wives, aunts and grandmothers who are dedicated surfers. Turns out, SurferGirls.com is changing all of that. They’re sick of the male dominated surf culture, and are doing something about it.
SurferGirls.com has the surf jewelry, photos and artwork, surf music, books and DVDs and surf clothing that any surfer girl would love. They also have plenty of information and resources for anyone from the beginner to the most experienced waterwoman. And in the midst of all of that that they do for surfer girls, they also find the time to help out relevant clubs, environment and animal rights organizations through their links and sponsors.
So check them out, water ladies. Help SurferGirls.com help you and the environment.
Speaking of using our hard working soldiers ass human PR tools, check out the video from Henry Waxman’s “Misleading information on the battlefield” hearing from yesterday. Just watching Pat Tillman’s brother Kevin reading his opening statement is heartbreaking. For a family to go through the loss of a brother and a son, only to realize that he was killed by friendly fire and then spun through a flood of lies into a “war hero” must be one of the hardest things to go tthrough. And the fact that our government was behind these lies hurts that much more.
I am absolutely blown away by how the military and other government entities have blatantly spun their own soldiers misfortunes in warmongering public relations material. The The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform hearings chaired by Henry Waxman regarding the fabricated Pat Tillman and Jessica Lynch stories is busting this scam wide open.
I am appalled that the same people fabricating these stories are the ones who accuse others of “not supporting our troops.” If “supporting our troops” is just using them as flesh and blood public relations tools, then I am out.
Besides that, funding for taking care of our troops when they come home is crap. Sure, they can go to college on the GI Bill or whatever the hell it is, but who gives a shit if you can go to college for free when you can’t afford to pay rent, let alone feed yourself and your family? I would think that after four or more years of being used as a human PR tool, a person deservesd more dignity than we give them.
I’m getting off track here, but just wanted to point out how ludicrous this whole “Support our troops” thing is. I am all for supporting our troops, and certainly do, but I don’t think that the people who are supposedly supporting our troops really are doing it in practice.
